Sparkle downloads new app and trashes old app but doesn't install new app

Description

Using Sparkle, my application appears to successfully download the new version, but after clicking "Install and Relaunch", the old application gets deleted, and the new one never gets installed (catastrophic, obviously). It then brings up a series of 2 errors indicating that it "does not have permission to write to the application's directory!".

I've tried with the old application in may locations, including my Desktop, and I merely run it as myself. Therefore there should be no permissions problem.
